Astrology: Astrology is blend of science and art. Astrology is a vast concept, no matter how much one learns he can never grab all its knowledge. That’s why it is a science. It is a group of systems which hold the relative positions of celestial bodies. Astrology is the system that provides the detail related to personality, terrestrial matters and human affairs. Astrologer is the person who does practice of astrology. Astrologers strongly believe that the positions of celestial bodies and their time to time movement either directly or indirectly influence life on the Earth. Some astrologers describe astrology as a symbolic language, or a form of divination. There are various definitions for the astrology, but the common assumption for astrology is the celestial placements that support to know the past and present events. Like definitions, there are many traditions of astrology. Some traditions share similar features because of the transmission of astrological doctrines between cultures. While others developed in isolation and hold different doctrines but still share some features because they all are drawing on similar astronomical sources. The main traditions used by modern astrologers are Hindu astrology (Vedic), western astrology and Chinese astrology.

Vedic astrology: Vedic astrology is the ancient horoscopic system that focuses on casting horoscopes. Vedic astrology is also known as Jyotish, Indian astrology, or Hindu astrology. Recently, this astrology has gained popularity in the western areas because of its accuracy in predicting events in daily lives. Vedic astrology uses constellational zodiac which help us understand life purpose. It also give us specific timetables for making correct decisions about career, finances, relationship, health, spiritual growth, etc. The base of Vedic astrology is sidereal zodiac which calculates the positions of the planets according to observable astronomy. In Vedic astrology the constellations has paramount importance.

Western Astrology: It is a representation of celestial entities. It uses tropical zodiac for the precession of the equinoxes. The base of western astrology depends upon a system, which is the path of the sun through the heavens. This kind of astrology uses the time of birth of a person to make horoscope. Western astrology is geocentric which means it considers the Earth as the centre around which the Sun revolves. It is said that it has been the result of the knowledge of the earlier Indian/Vedic schools. In modern times, western astrology has come into closer contact with each other, notably with Indian and Chinese astrology.

Chinese astrology: Chinese astrology is based on the traditional calendars and astronomy. It is a different tradition that has evolved. This astrology does not calculate the positions of the sun, the moon and the planets at the time of birth. In contrast to Vedic and western astrology, Chinese astrology divide the celestial equator instead of dividing the sky. Each sign corresponds to one of twelve “double-hours” that govern the day, and to one of the twelve months. Each zodiac sign governs a different year, and combines with the five elements of Chinese cosmology to give a 60 year cycle.

Horoscope matching is an Indian astrology practice of matching two persons horoscopes in all features of life.

Astrology is method of predictions based on astronomy. Vedic or Hindu astrology and Western astrology both are based on the concept of astronomy or the study of stars which moves in the zodiacal belt. As the earth complete its revolution around the Sun once in 365 days 5 hours 48 minutes and 46 seconds. When considering it from the Earth [geocentric- where we take Earth in the centre and all heavenly bodies revolving around it] – means the Sun appears to complete one ecliptic round and this is tropical year. During this completion of tropical year the earth regains its original angular position with the Sun. this is responsible for change of seasons. From one vernal equinox to the other it will take one complete tropical year. During this tropical year from one vernal equinox to the next, we consider the position of the earth with reference to a fixed star – Chitra – spica of the zodiac, the earth appears to lie some 50.26 seconds of celestial longitude to the west of its original position. Sidereal year is one complete revolution of the earth with respect to the fixed star Chitra or Spica. This is 20 minutes longer than tropical year. This point, the first point of Aries or the vernal equinox, goes on receding westward at a rate of approximately 50.26 seconds of arc each year. This is called the precession of the equinoxes. However, in Nirayan System the reference point is fixed. It is 180º away from the Chitra Nakshatra and that point is referred to as the first point of Aries. The movement of this point is then subtracted in the calculations and we get without ayan means a niryana position of the planets. That is why when a person born with Sun in Virgo according to Western astrology will have Sun in Leo according to Vedic astrology. This distance at any given epoch is called as the Ayanamsha. The ayanamsha indicates the difference between the fixed zodiac and the movable zodiac. The system that considers the fixed zodiac is called the Niryana (without ayana!) system, while the one that considers the movable zodiac is called the Sayana (with ayana!) system. The Niryana values of planetary longitudes can be obtained by subtracting the ayanamsha for a given time from the Sayana longitudes. According to Vedic astrology it is exact and fixed and not changing. Therefore Vedic astrology bears better tools than Western Astrology. Which System Is Superior Vedic system or western Astrology Both systems are appropriate at their own place. But Vedic system of astrology is based on the strong astronomical principles which are more accurate so this system is much better. According to my point of view, if you use Vedic system in calculations then apply the Vedic methods of predictions whereas if you apply Western calculations then apply Western method of prediction. But Vedic system indeed has better tools and methods to predict. It is supported by many Vargas i.e. divisional charts which help in knowing the event in its specific area, there are many dasha systems to cross check the event at the right time etc.
